Frequently Asked Questions

What does feeding therapy look like?

1

Before each session, families receive a list of foods to have ready. During therapy, the therapist works with your child using these foods, moving up and down their individual comfort levels in a flexible, responsive way.

Parent coaching is included in every session to support carryover into everyday mealtimes.

Is my child just picky — or do they need feeding therapy?

2

Many children go through phases of picky eating. It’s common for children to prefer familiar foods or reject new ones temporarily. However, therapy may be helpful if your child:

  • Eats fewer than 20–30 foods

  • Refuses entire food groups

  • Has strong sensory reactions to textures, smells, or appearance

  • Gags with certain foods

  • Only accepts specific brands or presentations

  • Experiences frequent mealtime distress

Feeding patterns often become more rigid over time, particularly after around four years of age, making progress slower. Supporting feeding early can make a significant difference.
